ABC Trek Itinerary: A Day-by-Day Breakdown

Day 1: Stay at Ghandruk (1,940m)

Start your journey from your location as early as you can. Reach to Pokhara and straightly head towards the Ghandruk. To reach Ghandruk, you need to change the vehicle (4*4). The journey from the Pokhara to Ghandruk is scenic as well as tough. Ghandruk, situated at an altitude of 1,940 meters is a traditional Gurung Village. Ghandruk offers stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). After reaching Ghandruk, walk around the village to experience the authenticity of the Gurung hospitality and local architecture. Avoid overexertion on your first day.


Day 2: Ghandruk to Chhomrong (2,170m)

This is the first and starting day of the trek. Capture the morning views of the Annapurna range from Ghandruk before departure. Start early from Ghandruk to avoid the mid-day heat during the ascents. Use trekking sticks to balance the stability during the descents. You'll find the ascents and descents throughout the journey, especially steep uphill near Komrong Danda. Enjoy the terraced fields and lush forests along the way. Komrong Danda offers you a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. After Komrong Danda, you'll reach Kimrung. You'll enjoy the Kimrung River and its serene environment on the trail. After some hours of hiking from Kimrung, you'll reach Chhomrong, where you stay today. 

Pro Tip: Don’t rush through ascents; pace yourself.


Day 3: Chhomrong to Bamboo (2,310m)

Today, you have to walk around 5 to 6 hours to reach from Chhomrong to Bamboo. Once you start the journey, after around 1 to 1.5 hours, you'll reach Bhanuwa. A mix of steep descents and ascents from Chhomrong. Chhomrong to Bhanuwa is a steep descent followed by an ascent to reach Sinuwa. Sinuwa is known for its views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) with a peaceful environment. From Sinuwa, the lush bamboo groves on the way to Bamboo. Walk at your pace enjoying the calming sounds of nature in Bamboo. Also, avoid loud noises that could disturb the wildlife.

Pro Tip: Carry insect repellent or Sanitizer to avoid the leech attack.




Day 4: Bamboo to Deurali (3,230m)

Today is the day to hike around 6 to 7 hours from Bamboo to reach Deurali. As the altitude is increasing, you need to keep your pace steady to avoid altitude sickness. The trails ascend through dense forests and river crossings. You get to see the thick rhododendron and bamboo forests near Dovan. Hike slowly enjoying the change in vegetation as you ascend. After hiking for around 1.5 to 2 hours, you'll reach the Himalaya Village, which will provide a serene atmosphere. Stop frequently to take in the views and to acclimatize your body. After reaching Dovan, there is a steep climb towards Deurali. Deurali is the place from where the alpine terrain starts.




Pro Tip: Don't skip hydration, it's crucial as altitude increases. According to the Expert Guide, you need to drink 4 to 6 liters of water per day to keep your body hydrated.


Day 5: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m)

You have to hike around 5 to 6 hours to reach ABC from Deurali. A gradual ascend and sometimes steep ascend is found as you move towards the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). The hike offers you the breathtaking views of the Annapurna Sanctuary. From MBC, you can see the close-up view of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and the surrounding peaks. So, pause at MBC for a quick break and to acclimatize your body. Another 3 hours of hike is done to reach the final destination of our trek i.e. Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). Start the day early to catch the sunset from the Base Camp. Annapurna Base Camp provides you the 360 panoramic views of the Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, and more. 

Pro Tips: 

  • Start early to secure the view of gigantic mountains from clouds in ABC.
  • Take your altitude sickness medicine to be protected.

Day 6: Explore the Annapurna Base Camp and return.
