4-Day Himalayan Journey to Gosainkunda Lake

A serene view of Gosainkunda Lake surrounded by blooming pink flowers and rocky hills under a clear sky.

Gosainkunda Lake is situated at an altitude of 4,380 meters above sea level in the heart of Langtang National Park. This trek is not just a place of natural wonder but also a sacred pilgrimage for Hindus and Buddhists. It is considered a challenging yet rewarding trek of Nepal, offering stunning landscapes, astonishing views of snow-capped mountains, and vibrant local Tamang and Sherpa culture

According to Hindu mythology, Gosainkunda Lake was created by Lord Shiva. Legends say that during the Samundra Manthan, Lord Shiva drank poison to save the universe. To reduce the intense heat, Lord Shiva stroked his trident (Trishul) into the mountain, resulting in the creation of the lake. The lake is a significant pilgrimage destination for Buddhists. Buddhists regard Gosainkunda as a holy site, connecting it with spiritual cleansing and meditation. The lake attracts thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India during the Janai Purnima festival which usually falls during August.

Gosaikunda Lake typically takes 3-5 days depending on your pace. The maximum altitude during this trek is 4,610 meters on Surya Kunda Lake. Surya Kunda is named after the Sun God and is considered one of the sacred lakes in the Gosainkunda area. It also serves as a rewarding stop for trekkers exploring the Langtang region
