Take public transportation or a jeep from Kathmandu to Timure. This journey is almost 120 kilometers long with a bumpy and off-road adventurous ride after Dhunche. Timure is a small border town nestled at an altitude of around 1,600 meters. Explore suspension bridges and the Trishuli River at Timure. Stay overnight on lodges in Timure.

Day 2: Timure to Kyirong Town (2,774 m)

A lively Tibetan town street in the rain, with traditional wooden buildings, Chinese-style street lamps, and people holding umbrellas.

Have breakfast in the hotel early morning. Today, we are crossing the Nepal-China Border. So, get ready to get a permit for immigration which opens at 8 a.m. Nepali time. After a short drive on a bus, you'll reach Kyirong Town, known as Gyirong Town in Tibet. There are lots of Nepali restaurants so try Nepali Dal Bhat Set in cold weather. Explore the Kyirong town, visiting the oldest temple known as Pakpa Monastery which houses the statue of Lokeshwora (Bodhisattva of Compassion), built by King Songtsen Gampo around 1000 years ago.

Brahmaputra River also known as Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibetan is one of the largest river in the world stretching around 2,900 kilometers originating from the Tibetan Plateau in Tibet (1,600 km in Tibet) and flowing eastward before entering India (900 km) and then Bangladesh (400 km) to form the Ganges Delta

Lake Manasarovar is one of the most sacred lakes for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon religion. According to Hindus, Lake is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva. Pilgrims believe that bathing in its holy waters will cleanse them from sins and bring spiritual purification. But, you're not allowed to wash anything in the lake. However, you can fill the bottle with the holy water for blessings. Just above the Lake, there is Chiu Gompa Monastery

According to Buddhism, it represents a place of meditation and spiritual awakening. The lake is said to be the creation of the god Brahma and symbolizes purity and enlightenment.

According to Jains, the lake holds spiritual importance as it is associated with the teachings of Lord Mahavir.

Bon also considers the lake associated with creation and spiritual power.

Many pilgrims visit Chiu Gompa Monastery to purify their minds and souls before attempting the holy Kora Trek. Chiu Gompa is believed to be the oldest monastery in this region. You can enjoy the bird' eye view of Manasarovar Lake from the Chiu Gompa Monastery.

After reaching Darchen at an altitude of around 4,670 meters, you can enjoy the spectacular sunset view while strolling around the town. In some of the hotels, oxygen is supplied in every room through Oxygen Concentrators.

Day 5: Hike from Darchen to Dirapuk Monastery (5,210 m)

The total distance from Darchen to Dirapuk is almost 13 kilometers, which typically takes around 6 hours depending on your pace. The journey begins with a bus ride from Darchen to Yama Dwar (Gateway of the God of Death). You can see a splendid north face of Mount Kailash from Yama Dwar.

Tibetan pilgrims and trekkers walking along a rugged trail on the Mount Kailash Kora, flanked by towering cliffs and snow-capped peaks under a bright blue sky. A Buddhist stupa and a pile of prayer stones mark the sacred path.

The trek actually begins from Yama Dwar. From now on, we are going to circumambulate Mount Kailash and this process is known as Kora. As we hike up, we can see the river flowing alongside the trail towards the Manasarovar Lake. Hiking on this trail is truly a beautiful and surreal experience. Along the way, we can see lots of rock piling and prayer flags. Somewhere right at the foot of the west face of Mount Kailash, notice a holy stone. According to the Legends, people rest their bodies in a holy stone to cure their backache.

After reaching Dirapuk, you can see the splendid northern face of Mount Kailash, and that's where today we are staying overnight.

Day 6: Dirapuk to Base of Mount Kailash (5,670 m)

According to Legends, the only person who ever scaled this holy mountain is Yogi Milarepa (Tibet's most famous yogi and spiritual poet). The Tibetan name for Mount Kailash is Gang Rinpoche which means "Precious Jewel of Snow". However, it is forbidden to summit the holy Mount Kailash.

A stunning close-up of Mount Kailash’s snow-covered face, showcasing its striking vertical rock formations and sacred symmetry against a deep blue sky.

Today, from Dirapuk, we are hiking approximately 3 hours uphill and 2 hours downhill. On reaching the base, we can see the divine figure of Lord Shiva giving blessings by the hand and also we can see the secret symbol ॐ (Om). Om is the primordial sound from which the universe was created and is the infinite and ultimate truth of reality.

After spending some time meditating at the base, retrace your step towards the Dirapuk Monastery.

Day 7: Dirapuk to Dolma La Pass (5,670 m) to Zutrulpuk Monastery (4,790 m)

Tibetan pilgrims and trekkers walking along a rocky valley surrounded by towering mountains, prayer flags, and a Buddhist stupa.

Today is the longest and toughest trek throughout the whole journey. We have to walk around 25 kilometers which typically takes around 9 hours depending on your pace. We have to walk over 10 kilometers to pass all the three highest passes of the region including Dolma La Pass. There is a gentle and steep uphill climb up to Dolma La Pass and a slippery downhill after passing the Dolma La. After descending the steep downhill, you'll see some local Tea houses. Try some authentic delicacies of the region like Yak Thukpa. And from teahouses, almost 15 kilometers of the trail is downhill along with the pristine river beside the beautiful trail.

Day 8: Zutrulpuk Monastery to Darchen

Today is the last hiking day of this journey of around 7 kilometers. It is the last day of the Kora Trek around the Mount Kailash. The trail is a downhill hike alongside the river. After reaching the teahouses, it is considered that the Kora Trek is officially ended. From here, you can take a bus ride to Darchen.

A dusty trail leading towards the remote Tibetan town near Mount Kailash, with a lone traveler walking under an overcast sky. Stone walls mark the path on the barren high-altitude plateau.
